Scripture

Mark 8

14 But the disciples had forgotten to bring any food. They had only one loaf of bread with them in the boat. 15 As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod.”

16 At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. 17 Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “Why are you arguing about having no bread?

Don’t you know or understand even yet? Are your hearts too hard to take it in?

18 ‘You have eyes—can’t you see? You have ears—can’t you hear?’ Don’t you remember anything at all? 19 When I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?” “Twelve,” they said.

20 “And when I fed the 4,000 with seven loaves, how many large baskets of leftovers did you pick up?”

“Seven,” they said.
21 “Don’t you understand yet?” he asked them.

Observation

Don’t you get it yet? When we look at things there is always two ways to look at our circumstances, from our human perspective or from God’s point of view and most of the time we look at things from our perspective and not God’s.

The disciples were arguing because they had forgotten to bring food with them, but they were sitting in the boat with the Bread of Life. Jesus had just performed the miracle of the feeding of the four thousand (and this was the second time he had fed thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread). He was more than able to take care of their physical hunger. He was talking to them from God’s point of view, but they just didn’t get it. They began to think about “yeast” from a human perspective. We do it all the time and I am sure that God sighs a deep sigh with us too just like Jesus I am sure with His disciples.

Seeing things from the Divine perspective should be our goal in life. Getting our eyes off of our circumstances and placing our eyes on the Lord is what we need to do today.

Application

I will work hard at thinking and looking at things from God’s point of view.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to keep my focus on You, on Your will for my life, and not on my circumstances. Give me the ability to see things for how they really are and not how I tend to see them.
