Oh,
For Wings Like A Dove,
To Fly Away And Rest!

Its Monday … I am already looking forward to Friday! How about you?

Scripture

Psalm 55

My heart is in anguish within me. Stark fear overpowers me. Trembling and horror overwhelm me. Oh, for wings like a dove, to fly away and rest! I would fly to the far-off deserts and stay there. I would flee to some refuge from all this storm.

Observation

Fridays for the past 45 + years has always been our special day! When you are in the ministry you have to learn to guard one day of the week and most pastors pick Friday.

Our favorite thing to do on Friday is go to the beach! Of course we don’t get to go to the beach every Friday, but this Friday we have already made plans to have our feet in the sand on Indian Rocks beach. Kathy reads a book; I fish, then we almost always take a walk down the beach together. We always hate to leave and head back home. It is a little bit of Heaven away from all of our concerns and problems.

David wanted to get away! His son Absalom had taken away his kingdom and was set on killing his Father. David’s close friends had betrayed David and had sided with Absalom.

David at this moment turns to his God and prays, “But I will call upon the Lord to save me—and he will.  I will pray morning, noon, and night, pleading aloud with God; and he will hear and answer.  Though the tide of battle runs strongly against me, for so many are fighting me, yet he will rescue me.  God himself—God from everlasting ages past—will answer them!” Psalm 55:16-19

Maybe you like King David would love to just get away, but you can’t? God is waiting to hear from you. He wants to rescue us. He wants to answer our prayers.

Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall.   Psalm 55:22

Application

This week I will pray and trust the Lord to deliver me from whatever comes my way. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, even though Kathy and I look forward to getting away on Friday and enjoying Your creation I realize that a lot can happen during the week that can change those plans. I know that life if full of the unexpected. Show me what to focus on. Help me to use my time wisely.

I will pray morning, noon, and night, pleading aloud with You; and I know You will hear and answer me. Psalm 55:17 personalized
