Always Be Humble And Gentle.
Be Patient With Each Other,
Making Allowance For Each Other’s Faults Because Of Your Love

Scripture

Ephesians 4

Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

[30] And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he is the one who has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

[31] Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior.

[32] Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Observation

“ALWAYS” … that word in or especially at the very beginning of a Bible verse leaves us no wiggle room, and in this case no wiggle room for meanness with those we love the most!

You and I can make excuses for our harsh and cruel behavior, but the truth is breaks God’s heart. It grieves His Holy Spirit (verse 30).

So what needs to change? Are we humble, patient, kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving towards people especially those closest to us? Do we make and are we continually making allowances for their faults because of our love for them or have we stopped?

These verses in Ephesians focus on how we are to treat one another.

Let’s look at verse 2 and verse 32 as we think about the most important people in our lives. How we are treating them? And how does that treatment line up with how God says to treat them? How are we doing? What needs to change?

Are we humble, patient, kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving towards them? Are we making allowances for his or her faults because of our love for them?

Ephesians 4:1

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.

Application

I will strive to live out Ephesians 4:2, 30-32. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, over and over and over again You remind me in Your Word to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving. I know that You have to continually remind me because of the condition of my heart. I agree with You and what You say about my heart … Jeremiah 17:9 "The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” Help me live in a way that makes You smile. Don’t let me grieve Your Holy Spirit by the way I treat those around me!
