Get Behind Me Satan
You
Are Seeing Things Merely From A Human Point Of View, Not From God’s.

Scripture

Psalm 139

17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
    they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
    you are still with me!

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 Point out anything in me that offends you,
    and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Observation

For me this morning’s daily Bible reading included Matthew 16 where we find Simon Peter getting both praised by Jesus and then immediately getting a stern rebuke by his Lord. When Jesus told his disciples that He would soon be put to death, Simon Peter took Jesus off to the side and scolded Him and Peter told Jesus, “Heaven forbid! This will never happen to you!”

Jesus responded with an even sterner rebuke back to Peter, “Get behind me Satan You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”

The way we see our situation is totally different from the way God sees things! All we can see is our circumstances. They can seem insurmountable!

Psalm 139 shows me what my Heavenly Father thinks about me. Maybe you also need to see your life from God’s point of view this morning?

To tell you the truth I need to camp and meditate on Psalm 139 for a few days or maybe even an entire week. I have got to be able to see over all my circumstances and see God at work in all of this!

Maybe life finds you in the same boat?

I need to see my life and the lives of those around me from God’s perspective, from His point of view!

Application

I will pray Psalm 139 back to the Lord this morning. I will ask God to show me my situation, my circumstances from His perspective. How about you?

Prayer

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.  You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night — but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Lord, open up my spiritual eyes so that I can see and understand my circumstances the way that You see them! No matter what I am putting my trust and my faith in You!
