1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses
to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us
down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run
with endurance the race God has set before us.
2 We do this
by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects
our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross,
disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside
God’s throne.
Observation
Kathy
and I had the awesome privilege of attending a special birthday party
for a very good friend of ours last night and it brought back a tidal
wave of great memories. Memories that were shared between us, Bob
and his wife Barbie Magruder and many of the others who were in
attendance at this big party.
When
I served as Minister of Evangelism and then Minister of Education at
First Baptist Brandon back in 1995-1996 and 1998-2000, Bob Magruder
served as pastor to our youth.
This
party that we attended was to honor Bob and help him celebrate his
60th birthday and also to help him celebrate his 30 years
of faithful ministry in the state of Florida.
There
was a lot of people at this party. All of the people in attendance
had been touched and impacted by Bob's life. He has invested his life
in so many people … what a testimony of what it means to live out
Hebrews 12:1-2.
One
of Bob's best friends, Wendel Stafford, who was also one of our good
friends, had looked forward to attending this big birthday
celebration for Bob, but last week the Lord called Wendel home! Maybe
Wendel got to watch the whole thing from Heaven! Who knows!
This
I do know for sure – you and I are in a race! We have a lot of
people counting on us.
Are
we investing our lives in others? Are we helping them grow in Christ?
Who
is going to be in Heaven because of you?
Who
is going to be in Heaven because of me?
Lets
keep our eyes on Jesus and lets finish this race that God has set
before us!
Application
I
will continue to look for ways to invest my life in others. How about
you?
2
Timothy 2:2
You
have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable
witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who
will be able to pass them on to others.
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, I am so thankful for so many good friends. They are such a
blessing. Thank You for bringing each one of them into our lives.
Help us to be a good influence and good friends to them. Show me who
needs my time. Bring people into my life that want to grow in their
relationship with You.
