We Must Influence Those Around Us

We Must Influence Those Around Us

Scripture

Jeremiah 15

You must influence them;
do not let them influence you!
20 They will fight against you like an attacking army,
but I will make you as secure as a fortified wall of bronze.

Observation

I think we as a church have forgotten that we are to influence the world and not the other way around. On matters of moral integrity, like lying, cheating, stealing, sexual immorality when polls are taken there is not much difference in church goers and non church goers. I don't understand why. Do you?

As I read the word of God every day I am instructed to live a life that is different from the rest of the world. If something is not going to bring God glory then it is not for me. I am not saying that I am perfect. I am still a sinner. I am a forgiven sinner who desires to live my life pleases my Heavenly Father.

Once we step into the light and surrender our lives to Christ then we should continue to walk in that light so we can bring Him honor and glory. Shine for Jesus.
What is different about your life from those that don't know Christ?

Application

I will influence those around me and not the other way around. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Jeremiah felt so alone and it seems that he felt like because of his suffering that You had forgotten him. Help me to be as faithful to You as Jeremiah was and don't let me get caught up in the sin around me. I want to influence the people around me. I want to help move them to a closer relationship with You. You are a Mighty God. You are Worthy of Praise. May Your hand be on our church tomorrow and I pray that people would put their faith and trust in You for their salvation. I pray for new people to find their way to our church. And I pray that they would find a place to serve.

When Everything Is Ready

When Everything Is Ready

Scripture

John 14

Jesus, the Way to the Father

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”

Observation

When everything is ready I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. A friend of ours went to be with Jesus last night. Everything must have been ready in his Father's house. Death is very difficult and painful for the loved ones that are left behind, but for the one that has died if he or she is Christ follower, it is a time of great gain. They are in Heaven. They are in the place that God has been preparing for them. The loss is ours not theirs.

Sometimes we grieve as people that don't really believe what Jesus says in John 14. John 14 should provide great comfort to all of us that are going through a time of loss. It should put a smile on our face knowing that our loved one is in Heaven experiencing a celebration that is literally out of this world.

I guess that is why I love funerals of saints. During the funeral service we have the opportunity to really express our trust in all of God's promises about Heaven and Eternal Life. It is a time to celebrate. It is a time to laugh. We call a Christ Follower a saint not because they were perfect, but because by God's grace though they were sinners God saved them. It is a time to remember how God changed that person's life from a sinner to a saint. It is a time to give God glory for the miracle of salvation.

None of deserve Heaven we are all sinners that deserve Hell, but the death of a saint or Christ Follower helps remind us of God's wonderful mercy and grace. It is only by His Grace and His Mercy do we get to enjoy Heaven.

Application

I love to think about what Jesus said in John 14 and John 11 during times of loss. I will meditate on those chapters this week.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for Randy and Laurel, Sherry and Rodney, Ruth and Murray, and all their kids as they go through this time of loss. Thank You for all of Your promises. Jim is celebrating today. He will be catching up with some old friends and his spending time with Dot. I pray for the family as they go through this time of loss. I pray that it would draw them closer to You and closer to each other. You are the God of all comfort and the God of all compassion and I know that You will comfort each one of them today.

Boasting In Jesus Alone

Jeremiah 7; Jeremiah 8; Jeremiah 9; John 13

Boasting In Jesus Alone

Scripture

Jeremiah 9

23 This is what the Lord says:
“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom,
or the powerful boast in their power,
or the rich boast in their riches.
24 But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord

Observation

Care to boast about something, if you do then you better make sure that you are boasting about the Lord. Power, wisdom and riches all are something that someone could boast about but if you are smart you will boast about knowing the Lord. Give Him the glory and the honor. Don't take glory and honor for yourself or you will be sorry.

Boast in the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth because He delights in those things.

Application

I will live out today recognizing that I have nothing to boast about except Christ who has changed my life. Everything good about my life I owe to Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, my boast is in You and in You alone. I realize that on my own I can do nothing but with Christ I can do everything. I can live this day in victory because of Jesus Christ. He deserves the glory and the honor. I will make my boast in Him.

Help Me To Be Uncomfortable!

Jeremiah 5; Jeremiah 6; John 12

Help Me To Be Uncomfortable!

Scripture

John 12

25 Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. 26 Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

Observation

I don't think you will find the word “comfortable” in the scriptures, but that is what we always seem to desire. I don't find any place in the scriptures where Jesus was concerned with our comfort while we are here on earth. In fact, I see that He lets us know that if we are true followers of His that we will live a life that is uncomfortable, a life of sacrifice, a life totally contrary to the American dream or the American way of life. We are surrounded with creature comforts while the rest of the world doesn't even have enough food, or enough clothes or shoes for their feet.

I want to live out verse 26. How about you?

Application

I will ask the Lord to show me every change I need to make in my daily life to reflect a life that would make Him smile.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, show what needs to change in my life so I can be the disciple that You describe in verse 26. I don't want to miss out on how I am supposed to live out my life. I want to please You. Show me. Give me Your eyes. Give me Your heart. I want to make You smile.

Do You Believe This?

Jeremiah 3; Jeremiah 4; John 11

Do You Believe This

Scripture

John 11

25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this...?”

Observation

Do you believe this? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life? Do you believe that anyone who believes in Him will live, even after dying? Do you believe that everyone who lives in Him and believes in Him will never ever die?

Well I don't know about you, but I sure do! I will never ever die. I am going to live forever. It has nothing to do with my goodness, but it has everything to do with Jesus and His goodness!

Lazarus had to go through death's door twice. I don't think he was happy about being brought back to life. It brought joy to his sisters' lives but I am sure he had mixed feelings about it. Realizing that it was all for God's glory I guess he was able to understand why Jesus brought him back to this earth. Once I am in Heaven I sure don't want to be pulled back to this old rotten world. How about you?

Application

I will continue to share this story every chance I get especially at funerals! It is my favorite story in all of the Bible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Jesus is the resurrection and the life. I am going to live forever because of what Jesus did on the cross for me. Thank You for dying on the cross in my place. Thank You for giving me eternal life. I am never going to die, and even when I die I will continue to live. Nothing will keep me in the grave either!

Sheep and The Good Shepherd

Jeremiah 1; Jeremiah 2; John 10
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Sheep and The Good Shepherd

Scripture

John 10

10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,

Observation

Since we don't have a lot of sheep and shepherds in our day we might miss the meaning of this analogy if we are not careful. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and He wants to give us a rich and satisfying life. Are you experiencing this kind of life today? Why or why not?

Do you know for sure that when you die you will go to Heaven? Why or why not?

If you know the Good Shepherd and if you have become one of His sheep then you have eternal life and nobody can take it away from you.
I have a Good Shepherd and His name is Jesus. I have eternal life. I have a rich and satisfying life. How about you? If you have never asked Jesus Christ to become Lord and Savior of your life why not do it right now. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and surrender your life to Him. Allow Him to become the Good Shepherd of your life.

Application

I will share this with the folks at Mission Tampa this morning.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help the people at Mission Tampa understand the Gospel today. So many of them are blinded to the truth of the Gospel. Open their eyes today. I pray that they could see that they are lost without Christ.

Jesus is Worthy of Worship

Zephaniah 1; Zephaniah 2; Zephaniah 3; John 9
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Jesus is Worthy of Worship

Scripture

John 9

35 When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”
37 “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!”
38 “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.

Observation

Jesus healed the blind man even though the blind man didn't have a clue at first who Jesus was. It was after the blind man was healed that he began to find out about who healed him. Once he hears about who it is that healed him he worshiped Jesus. Only God can be truly worshiped. Jesus accepted the blind man's worship because Jesus is God. He was born blind. You and I are born blind spiritually.

Only God can open up our spiritual eyes so that we can see. If you have come to a place in your life where you understand that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you and you have surrendered your life to Him and He is now your Lord and Savior then it was God who gave you the spiritual understand or the spiritual sight to be saved. We don't save ourselves.

Have you said in your heart, “yes, Lord, I believe?” Have you been healed of your spiritual blindness? Then worship Jesus!

Application

I am awe filled to think that the Creator God of this Universe has chosen to heal me of my spiritual blindness. I will thank Him all day today. And I will pray for others to be saved today as we worship.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for taking the spiritual blinders off of my eyes and allowing me to be saved. Thank You for saving me. I pray that You do the same thing for the others in my family. I pray that they could worship You just like I have the opportunity to do. You are wonderful. You are a Mighty God. You are the Light of the World.

God is Sovereign!

Scripture

Habakkuk 3

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights.

Observation

This is a great passage for all of us this week as we have watched the meltdown on Wall Street. It is a great reminder that we must focus on the Lord and not on circumstances. Who is your strength? Can you say, “The Sovereign Lord is my strength!” Are you rejoicing today?

Application

I will rejoice in the Lord. I will praise Him all day today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are my strength. I rejoice in You. You make me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. Even though everything turns and heads south I will rejoice in You. I put my trust in You.

Don't Be So Quick To Judge

Don't Be So Quick To Judge

Scripture

John 7

24 Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.”

Observation

I am usually so wrong about people when I first meet them. The people were so wrong about Jesus. They were judging Him because He healed someone on the Sabbath. He quickly showed them that they even healed on the Sabbath when they circumcised their sons on the Sabbath. He showed them their flawed understanding of the scriptures. They couldn't get past the fact that they thought He had broken one of their rules even if it was to totally heal someone.

Application

I want to be slower to judge others today and when I do make a judgment call I hope I can look beneath the surface to be able to judge correctly. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me Your heart. Help me see people like You see people and help me not to be quick to judge. I know that my heart is also desperately wicked and without Your Holy Spirit controlling me today I can totally misread the people around me. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for providing for me. You are so good.

Human Effort Accomplishes Nothing!

Scripture

John 6

63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Observation

When I talk to people at Mission Tampa about their relationship with God they almost always talk about being good or doing good stuff to please God to get into Heaven. This verse tells us how much human effort accomplishes in getting us into Heaven...Nothing...Zero...Nada!

Application

I will continue to share the Gospel of Grace and I will continue to shatter people's hopes of getting to Heaven on their own effort.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You alone save. Salvation is in no other name but Jesus. Help me communicate the Gospel clearly and exalt Jesus. Take the spiritual blinders off of the people that hear the Gospel. Draw people to yourself. I pray that people will be saved this Sunday at Christ Fellowship.

When Trouble Comes Where Do You Turn?

Scripture

Nahum 1

7 The Lord is good,
a strong refuge when trouble comes.
He is close to those who trust in him.

Observation

Here is a great promise for those of us who love the Lord. “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him.”
Got trouble? Pray this verse back to your Heavenly Father! We have a Heavenly Father who is good. He is not up in Heaven trying to figure out ways to be mean to us. No, He is good and He is good all the time.

When storms come into your life and they will come, remember that you have a strong refuge. You have a safe place to be when those storms come. Snuggle up under the wings of the Almighty...get close to Him. Let Him protect you from all the trouble that life sends our way. It is a choice. We either stay out in the storm or we go to the One who can provide a safe place for us to weather the storm.

Application

I will seek refuge with the Lord when trouble comes because He is my strong refuge.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are good. You are my strong refuge when trouble comes. You are close to me because I trust in You. Guide me today. Help me as I go through this day to bring You honor and glory. It is my desire to be very close to You today. You are Mighty. Nothing is too hard for You.

Wake Up! There Are People That Need a Savior!

2 Kings 21; 2 Chronicles 33; John 4

Wake Up! There Are People That Need a Savior!

Scripture

John 4

35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life.

Observation

But Jesus says, “wake up and look around!” The fields are already ripe for harvest. The harvest is all around us. We need to wake up and see it. There are people all around us that God has prepared to receive the Good News. We just need to share with them. They are ripe and ready to be harvested.

The Samaritan woman was ready to receive Christ. So were many of those that lived in the Samaritan village. The disciples didn't even think the Samaritan's were people worth saving. They despised the Samaritan's and they needed to learn a lesson. Who do you despise or tend to ignore? Is it the people on the street corners? Is it people of a different skin color or people that speak a different language? They are ripe for the harvest if we are willing to work the fields.

Application

I will work hard at looking past a person's appearance and the circumstances that they live in and I will focus on their need of a Savior.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to have Your heart and Your compassion for people no matter what they look like or how they act or where they live or how they smell. I want to help them come to You. I want them to experience eternal life. Help me bring people to You.

Believe in Jesus!

Isaiah 65; Isaiah 66; Psalm 62; John 3
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Believe in Jesus!

Scripture

John 3

14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

Observation

Today I will go and talk to people at Mission Tampa and almost 99% of them will not understand the Gospel message even though it has been repeated over and over again to them. I pray that today someone will understand the Gospel and they will be saved. Almost all of them are trusting in their good works to get into Heaven and only talk about Jesus after they have shared about getting to Heaven by being good. It is truly amazing, but also it is very sad.

Salvation is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. A person must put their faith and their trust in Him for their salvation. It is not Jesus plus good works or good works plus Jesus. No, a person must clearly understand that salvation comes when they believe in Jesus Christ and they trust in what He did for them on the cross. There is no other way to be saved. Have you put your faith in Jesus Christ? Are your sins forgiven? Is He your Savior?

Application

I will share these verses with the people at Mission Tampa and I will pray for their salvation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Roderick came to church yesterday and he put his faith and his trust in Jesus to save him. Thank You for giving me the opportunity to talk to him about his relationship to You. I pray that others at Mission Tampa will be saved today. Open their eyes so they can understand the Gospel. I pray for their salvation. I pray that You do a mighty work in their lives today. You are Mighty. Nothing is too hard for You.

Speak Out!

Scripture

Psalm 107

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
2 Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!
Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.

Observation

Having you been speaking out? Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Who have you told this past week about God's wonderful love. Have you been speaking out? Yesterday I had the chance to meet with someone and talk to him about his relationship with Christ. This man goes to church, but when I asked him if he had ever turned from sin and self and asked Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior he told me know. This man is close to salvation! Speak out!

We were saved in order to be able to speak out so lets do it!

Application

I will look for an opportunity today to speak out about my awesome Savior. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that today I have the chance to speak out in Your name about the wonderful things You have done in my life. There is so much to speak out about because You are so good. Thank You for saving me and now let me speak out so others can also experience Your salvation. You are Mighty. I pray today that people would turn to You and be saved.

Bringing People To Jesus!

Scripture

John 1

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. 41 Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”).

45 Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”

Observation

Andrew and Philip did exactly what you and I need to do they brought people to Jesus. They invited people to come meet Jesus and you and I can do the same thing today. Who have you invited to meet you at church this Sunday? Who can we call today or maybe even go by and visit? What will stop us...business...laziness?

Application

I will invite some people today to join us tomorrow for worship. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I love the example of Andrew and Philip. It is my desire to do the same thing. I pray for Roderick who I invited this week to join us at church and I pray for Roger and Gabriela who said they are planning on attending. I pray that Your hand continues to remain on our church. Why God Doesn't Bring Judgment Right Now...

Isaiah 57; Isaiah 58; Isaiah 59; Psalm 103; 2 Peter 3

Why God Doesn't Bring Judgment Right Now...

Scripture

2 Peter 3

8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

15 And remember, the Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.

Observation

The only reason that God doesn't judge this world and everything in it is because of His patience. He is still waiting for you and me to reach those around us with the Gospel. If you are not a Christian then He is waiting giving you a chance to become a Christian. One day soon though our time will be up and He will come and He will come in judgment.

I am so glad that my sins have been forgiven. How about yours? I read this morning in Psalm 103 that He has forgiven my sins as far as the east is from the west. Do you understand what this verse is saying? When God forgives our sins they are totally gone! I have been totally forgiven … how about you?

God is patiently waiting for us to reach this world with His Gospel. It is so important that we focus on the remaining people that have never heard. We must focus on the folks that do not have access to God's Word. Are you willing to do that?

Application

I will look for opportunities to share the Gospel today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for those that I talk to every week at Mission Tampa. They hear the Gospel every month but most of them are blinded to the Truth. I pray that as we share with them that their spiritual minds and their spiritual hearts will be able to understand your Truth. I pray for their salvation. Help me to be patient with them. Give me boldness. Give me Your heart for them and give me Your patience as I share with them. I pray for people to be saved this week as we gather for worship.

Taking God's Word to Those Who Have Not Yet Heard...

Scripture

Isaiah 55

11 It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Observation

Here is what God says about His word (the Bible), “I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

It is so important to get people to the unreached people groups with the word of God because God's word will not return void. It will accomplish all that God wants it to accomplish. Are you willing to go? Why not? What is holding you back? Is it your family, comforts of the USA, friends, children, grand children what is holding you back? Why aren't you preparing to go? Have you ever been on a mission trip? Why not? Don't you think you should go? Why should you stay and not go?

Application

I am going to continue to pursue going back on the mission field until I get there. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know my heart. You know that it is my desire to serve You where people have not had the opportunity to hear about You. Help me go by opening the necessary doors that seem difficult to open. Nothing is too hard for You. You are Mighty and You are Worthy of Praise. Vital and Green

Scripture

Psalm 92

12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.

Observation

This is a passage for us old folks. We will flourish like palm trees and we will grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. Even in our old age we will still produce fruit; we will remain vital and green. I love it.

God is not finished with us yet just because we are older. The best is yet to come.

Application

I will go through this day meditating on this passage.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I admit that sometimes I am discouraged because with age comes some health issues that we have to deal with. But I am encouraged to know that even in my old age you will keep me vital and green. I will still produce fruit. Help me to do that today. Help me to be productive today. Be Strong In Your Faith

Scripture

1 Peter 5

6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

Observation

There are several important commands in this passage: humble yourselves under the mighty power of God; give all your worries and cares to God; stay alert; watch out for your great enemy, the devil; stand firm...

So how do we humble ourselves under the mighty power of God? I would suggest that a good start would be to open up His word everyday and talk with Him about everything. Then take all of our worries and concerns to Him and not try to handle our problems by ourselves.

There is also a warning in this passage to stay alert because the devil is out to destroy us. And there is a command to stand firm in our faith!

Application

I recognize today that God is Sovereign and I humble myself under His might power. I will give Him all of my worries and cares. I will stay alert and watch out for the devil and I will stand firm in my faith.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are my Sovereign Lord. There is no one like You. I recognize that I need Your help and I can't handle my problems and my circumstances on my own. Keep me alert today and help me to stand firm in my faith so I will not be tricked by the evil one. You alone are God. You alone are worthy of my praise. I will put all my worries and all my cares in Your hands today because I know that You care for me.

Serve Others With All The Strength and Energy That God Supplies

Scripture

1 Peter 4

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

Observation

If we use our spiritual gift and if we exercise it with all of our strength and energy that God supplies then we will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ! I love it. So what is your spiritual gift? Are you serving others by using your spiritual gift with all the strength and energy that God supplies? Is God getting glory through your life today. Lets use our spiritual gifts today and lets do it with all that we have.

Saved From An Empty Life

Isaiah 36; Isaiah 37; Psalm 76; 1 Peter 1
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Saved From An Empty Life

Scripture

1 Peter 1

18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.

Observation

We have been saved from an “empty life”. Jesus came to save us and to give us lives full of abundance and meaning. If you are living without Christ then your life is without meaning or purpose. There is an emptiness in each one of us that only Jesus Christ can fill. So are you experience a rich abundant life or is your life one of emptiness? Jesus is the answer. Surrender your life to Him today. Turn from sin and self and ask Him to come into your life and save you. Acknowledge Him as your Lord and your Savior right now.

Application

I will thank the Lord today for the abundant life that I experience in Christ. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me from an empty life and thank You for allowing me to live the life that I now live one full of meaning and purpose. Help me walk with You today. Keep me from sin. Help me to bring you glory and honor.

Doing the Right Thing When We Know We Should!

2 Chronicles 29; 2 Chronicles 30; 2 Chronicles 31; James 4
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Doing the Right Thing When We Know We Should!

Scripture

James 4

17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

Observation

I think my biggest area of sin is just what James says in verse 17 of chapter four of the book of James. It is when I know I ought to do something and then don't do it. Sometimes it is because I am tired. Sometimes I just decide not to do it. For what ever reason when I don't do what I know I should do then it is sin. I think it is where even committed Christians struggle the most. It boils down to obedience or I should say “disobedience”. And disobedience to God is always “sin”.

Application

I want to be totally obedient even when I don't feel like it. I will ask God for help to be more obedient to Him in everything. Hope about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me today to say “yes” to You when You put something on my heart that I know I need to do. I pray for safety for the team today and I pray for a huge response to the block party that the World Changers will do today.

Prized Possession!

Isaiah 29; Isaiah 30; Isaiah 31; James 1

Prized Possession!

Scripture

James 1

17 Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.

Observation

It is hard to imagine that we are God's prized possession, but we are. Now it is our job to make Him smile by our faithful obedience. He never changes. I can't say that for myself or for those around me. People do change. People do let us down. People are one way today and tomorrow they are totally different, but God never changes.
It is amazing to me that the Creator God who can create anything and has created everything that exist thinks that we are valuable enough to be His prized possession! It is truly amazing.

Application

Help me make You smile today but the decisions and choices that I make!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, this is a busy week. I am reminded as I read James this morning that it isn't enough just to be readers of Your word, but I must actually put it into practice. Help me to do just that this week. Guide me through this week. Help me make You smile. Don't let me become weary in well doing. Give me strength this week to serve You with all of my heart. You are my Lord and my Savior. I look to You this week. May Your Hand continue to be on our church. I pray for people to be saved and I pray for new people to be drawn to our fellowship. May You be honored and glorified this week in what we do.

The Lord is My Helper

Scripture

Hebrews 13

5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

Observation

Are you satisfied with what you have? This is a huge promise when God tells us, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you. The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

Sounds like to me that if we will trust the Lord completely then we will not have to worry about a lot of stuff. God wants to take care of us and He will take care of us if we let Him.

Application

I will say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to live out this today in my life. Help me to trust You with everything. You are a Mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You.

Unshakable

Scripture

Hebrews 12

28 Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29 For our God is a devouring fire.

Observation

With so much uncertainty in the world today it is great to read this morning about our Kingdom that is unshakable! Christ followers are not of this world. We belong to a Kingdom that is unshakable! There is security in knowing that our citizenship is in a place that is unshakable. We don't know what is going to happen to the USA, but we do know that we belong to a Kingdom far better and that one day we will experience something that is unbelievable! Out of this world unbelievable!

Application

So I will go through this day with confidence knowing that nothing is going to keep me from experiencing God's Kingdom one day. In fact, I am living in it right now. And it is only going to get better as this earth falls apart.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promises. Thank You for allowing me to be part of a Kingdom that is unshakable! Help me live out today in a way that pleases You.

God Has Something Better In Mind For Us…

Scripture

Hebrews 11

40 “For God had something better in mind for us...”

Observation

Isn’t it neat that God has something better in mind for us! God delights in us. He has plans for us that are way too wonderful for us to even imagine or think. Are you down in the dumps? Look up! God has something special in mind for us. God is constantly working things to our good at least for those of us that love Him.

Application

I will relax and take comfort in the fact that God loves me and has something better in mind for me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for always having something better in mind for me. You are always looking out for my well-being. Thank You for how well You have taken care of my family and me. Thank You for how You have blessed our church. You are a wonderful God. You are worthy to be praised.

Let Us Go Right Into The Presence of God

Let Us Go Right Into The Presence of God

Scripture

Hebrews 10

19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.

Observation

We can go boldly into the throne room of God because of the blood of Jesus. His sacrifice has given us free entrance into the very presence of God Himself. We can go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fulling trusting Him.
It is an awesome privilege to be able to go directly to God. Only children of a King have direct access to the throne of their father. We have free access to God because we are Kings' Kids. So lets go right into His presence this morning with sincere hearts fully trusting Him. Wow! What a promise! What an awesome privilege!

Application

I am going to directly to my Father this morning because our High Priest Jesus Christ has laid down the ultimate sacrifice - His very life - to give me this privilege.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come directly into Your throne room this morning only because of the sacrifice of Your Son. I don't deserve this privilege, but I come with a sincere heart fully trusting in You. I belong to Your Kingdom. This world is not my home. I am just traveling through. Help me not become so comfortable with the things around me that I forget why You saved me. I pray that You open the doors for Kathy and I to serve You among people haven't had the opportunity to hear about You. Help us to be willing to accept and help us to know clearly the plan that You have for us in fulfilling the Great Commission. If we are not supposed to physically go to those unreached people then You must show us how we can help reach them by not making a move. If we are supposed to go then please throw the doors open so we can be obedient to Your plan of reaching this world with the Good News. Help me to be obedient no matter how You ultimately guide us during the days ahead. You are my Heavenly Father. I put my trust in You.

Christ Died Once For All

Isaiah 11; Isaiah 12; Isaiah 13; Isaiah 14; Hebrews 9
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Christ Died Once For All

Scripture

Hebrews 9

27 And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, 28 so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

Observation

Are you eagerly waiting for Him? Are you ready for the return of Jesus Christ? I am. When He comes back for me and hopefully for you He will come not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation. Our sins have already been dealt with on the cross. He paid the penalty for my sins and for your sins and if we put our trust in what He did for us on the cross then we can eagerly look forward to His return.

Have you experienced His forgiveness? If you died today where would you spend eternity? Do you know? If you were standing before God at Heaven’s gate and God asked you, “why should I let you into my Heaven?” what would you say to Him? The only correct answer to that question is found in verse 28 of chapter nine of the book of Hebrews.

I can boldly enter into Heaven when I die not because of anything that I have done but because Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away my sins.
Are you forgiven?

Application

I will continue to share this message with those that God brings into my life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation. I realize that I am saved for a reason. I am to be a light to bring others to a saving knowledge of Your Son Jesus Christ. Help me to share the Good News with boldness and with urgency. Remind me today of the lostness of the people around me. They need a personal relationship with You.

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God

Scripture

Isaiah 9

6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

Observation

Jesus is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. It is July but I think we should celebrate Christmas today. Why wait until December! The King has come. He is risen! We have reason to celebrate! So today lets get ourselves in the Christmas spirit and celebrate the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who is sitting on His throne. He Reigns and He is worthy of praise.

Application

I will celebrate today because Jesus Christ is in control. He reigns. He is Sovereign! Christmas in July.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus who is: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. He rules. He is on His Throne. He is sovereign. Nothing is happening today that He is not aware of. He will control the outcome of this crazy fallen world and He will turn bad things around to our good. Thank You for the promise of Isaiah 9:6.

The Power of a Blessing

Micah 5; Micah 6; Micah 7; Hebrews 7
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

The Power of a Blessing

Scripture

Hebrews 7

7 And without question, the person who has the power to give a blessing is greater than the one who is blessed.

24 But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. 25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.

Observation

I don't think I ever noticed verse 7 before this morning. “The person how has the power to give a blessing is greater than the one who is blessed”. Have you ever thought of that? You and I have been given the privilege to give out blessings and God will bless those we bless. Imagine the incredible power you and possess. We have the power to bless people.

The writer of Hebrews was demonstrating that Jesus Christ is our High Priest and He is far superior to any other high priest that has ever existed. Melchizedek placed a blessing on Abraham. He was more powerful than Abraham who received the blessing. Don't miss out today on the opportunity to be a blessing to those around you.

Jesus our High Priest has the power to save us and keep us forever because He lives forever to intercede for us!

Application

I will pray blessings on people today that I encounter at church.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me the awesome privilege of being able to pray blessings on people knowing that You will bless them. It is a wonderful privilege and responsibility that You have given us that follow Christ. I pray that this day would bring You glory and honor. I pray that Your hand would continue to be on our church. I pray that people would be saved today and lives changed forever!

Faultless!

Scripture

Jude 1

24 Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.

Observation

We, that know the Lord Jesus Christ, those of us who have been saved through trusting in Him, will be ushered into the presence of our God and be presented to Him “perfect” without one fault. Cool. All my sins and all your sins will be gone, if you and I have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as far as the east is from the west are sins will be gone!!!

I need to live a life that brings God glory and honor now because of what He has done for me. He is so good.

Application

I will thank the Lord for the assurance of my salvation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, all glory to You who alone is God. You are my Savior through Jesus Christ my Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are Yours before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.

Meeting Needs … How Do We Know When To Help?

Isaiah 1; Isaiah 2; Isaiah 3; Titus 3
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Meeting Needs … How Do We Know When To Help?

Scripture

Titus 3

14 Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.

Observation

In context the Apostle Paul was telling Titus that the church needed to help meet the financial needs of two traveling evangelists: Zenas the lawyer and Apollos.
If you read this passage you might think that you are to help everybody that comes to you with a need, but Paul was talking about helping people further the kingdom of God. Helping those that had given everything to serve the Lord to go out to share Christ, that is what Paul is talking about.

There are times when we should help folks that are asking for help, but especially if it folks that are living out their faith as missionaries or folks in full time Christian service. If unbelievers are asking for a hand out I think you really must be led by the Holy Spirit as to whether to help them or not. It is impossible to help every pan handler on every corner or every homeless person that asks for help.

Application

I will look at how much and how to help those that are serving the Lord financially.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that this world is not my home and that the Kingdom of God is what I need to think about. Help me help those who are committed to extending Your Kingdom. I pray for my missionary friends as they serve and sacrifice. I pray for Don and Edith as they deal with health issues. I pray that You heal them completely and allow them to continue to serve You.

I Will Call On The Lord...

Scripture

Psalm 86

7 I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.

Observation

In Amos I read this morning that the people refused to call on the Lord even though He did many things to get their attention. He brought disaster on them and yet they refused to call on Him for help.
Sometimes things like working on a car cause me to pray but only after I can't figure out how to fix it. If only I would get in the habit of praying about everything...

Application

I will call on the Lord today about some things that I cannot figure out. I need Divine intervention. They seem impossible but I know that they are not.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are the great I AM. Nothing is too hard for You. I will call to You whenever I'm in trouble, and You will answer me.

Work At Telling Others the Good News!

Scripture

2 Timothy 4

5 “...Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.”

Observation

Work at it...Work at telling others the Good News! Then Paul adds, “and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” Do you make excuses for not being faithful? Can people count on you? What ministry has God given you? Are you fully carrying out that ministry?

Work...every great idea turns out to be a lot of hard work! God gives us great ideas and we need to be willing to put in the hard work to make it happen.

Application

I will work hard at telling others the Good News and I plan to carry out the ministry that God has given me. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to focus on sharing the Good News. Help me to work at it. And help me carry out the ministry that You have given me. I want to make You smile today. Want To Live A Godly Life...Prepare to Suffer Persecution

Scripture

2 Timothy 3

12 Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

Observation

I don't think about persecution very much. As I read about Christians in other countries and see how they are persecuted I know that one day I will experience persecution like that in my life one day too.
Persecution for me today comes more from those within the fellowship and it is mainly in the form of criticism.

Application

It is my desire to live a godly life. So I know that I will experience some form of persecution because this verse tells me I will.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, when I experience persecution help me to handle it in a way that brings You glory. It is my desire today to please You. Help me to do just that!
